The great transition: Implication from environmental policy on the quality-quantity trade-off on children

چکیده
We develop an overlapping-generations model with human capital accumulation and endogenous fertility containing a pollution externality. In such a framework, we study the effects of an environmental policy change on individuals’ quality-quantity trade-off on children. In a Malthusian poverty trap, we show that a more stringent policy induces a reduction of the fertility rate. In a state of perpetual development, however, not only is this policy likely to have a positive effect on fertility, but we also obtain that environmental quality, growth, and welfare are compatible goals. Moreover, we show that an abatement pollution policy can be used as an instrument for initiating a country’s “great transition” from a state of poverty to a state of

A Hybrid Method Based on Fuzzy AHP and VIKOR for the Discrete Time-Cost-Quality Trade-off Problem
Time, cost and quality are considered as the main components in managing each project. Previous researches have mainly focused on the time-cost trade-off problems. Recently quality is considered as the most important factor in projects success, which is influenced by time acceleration that is the less time is spent the more success is gained. In time-cost-quality trade-off problems, each act...
متن کاملParents face quantity–quality trade-offs between reproduction and investment in offspring in Iceland
How to optimally allocate time, energy and investment in an effort to maximize one's reproductive success is a fundamental problem faced by all organisms. This effort is complicated when the production of each additional offspring dilutes the total resources available for parental investment. Although a quantity-quality trade-off between producing and investing in offspring has long been assume...

Environmental Quality and Growth Effects of Foreign Direct Investment in Nigeria
Abstract The study examines the growth effects of foreign direct investment on environmental quality in Nigeria between 1970 and 2013. Variables like per capita income, environmental degradation, foreign direct investment, human capital, inflation, trade openness, interest rate, and the interaction term between foreign direct investment and carbon emission were employed in the study. A long r...

Is the Quantity-Quality Trade-off a Trade-off for All, None, or Some? Although the theoretical trade-off between the quantity and quality of children is wellestablished, empirical evidence supporting such a causal relationship − particularly on child health − is limited. We use two measures of child health to asses the quantity-quality tradeoff across the entire distribution. Using data from th...
